Queen Baby Bean is giving away a house!

Sticking to our Earth Day theme and feeling in the giving mood, Queen Baby Bean is having a contest!

One of our absolute favorite things at Queen Baby Bean is the HOUSE. It is 100% endorsed by the Queen Baby Bean rugrats (aka 2 year old & 5 year old mama's little product testers). By the way, the HOUSE is currently out of stock but we've confirmed today it will start shipping at the end of April, so get your orders in now!

The HOUSE's smaller counter-part is the Mobile Home, which is cute as can be and sure to be a hit in your home! It is made of 100% recycled cardboard and 100% biodegradable.

It has 8 secret rooms, stair openings and spy holes. And an attic for storage. For knights, pirates and princesses. For Japanese "figurines" and little dolls. For on the road, When staying over (with grandma or grandpa), For a day in the park, At home, or on holidays. Easy-to-assemble for hours of play. Easy-to-store: it folds down flat in its box. 5% of profits go to UNICEF

Are you convinced the Mobile Home is for your little one? Here's how to get one absolutely free!

Leave a comment on this post telling us two things: #1. your best tip for 'getting green' (you know, a save the planet tip!) and #2. one item in our store that you heart!

One entry per person and please be sure to include your email address so we can contact you with the good news! You do not need to have a blogger account - just click on 'anonymous' and enter your contact info.

Contest is open to everyone (worldwide). Contest ends midnight ET on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - EARTH DAY! One winner will be selected at random (names in a hat, one sweet 5 year old (just turned!) picks the lucky winner!). Winner gets a MOBILE HOME!

*************************************************************************************

Sorry we were so slow to pick a winner but we've finally got one! Little Beaner picked #41 which is Lisa (great name, if I do say so myself!) who said:

Lisa said...I love the lion anamalz, and those plantarium things are way cool!

Hmmm, so many good green tips. I also try to not buy new whenever possible. We just bought a diesel car and we are going to put the conversion in to run it on waste vegetable oil. I have also been looking at living roofs. And I am planning on going to cloth wipes for myself as well as the baby when the next one comes

We'll be contacting Lisa to claim her house! Thanks to everyone that entered and be sure to check back soon for more great contests!

Time to give your mailbox a much needed break.

I missed yesterday, didn't I? Ah, well sometimes I need a break! ;-)

I've posted about this next topic before, but based on how much junk mail I get, I think it's time to post again!

Catalog Choice is a free service that lets you decline paper catalogs you no longer wish to receive. Catalog Choice is a sponsored project of the Ecology Center. It is endorsed by the National Wildlife Federation and the Natural Resources Defense Council, and funded by the Overbrook Foundation, the Merck Family Fund, and the Kendeda Fund.

Freecycle - changing the world one gift at a time

I'm working hard to give a tip a day 'til Earth Day on things you can do to save our little planet...so here's my Saturday tip.

We are having a beautiful Saturday - 68 degrees and heading up! This puts me in the perfect mood for some spring cleaning! And I have the perfect way to get rid of things, things that maybe aren't good enough to donate, but believe me someone will want them. What is that famous saying? One man's (or woman, in this case) junk is another man's treasure? Well it truly is on www.freecycle.org!

The Freecycle Network is made up of 4,330 groups with 4,844,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free.

To sign up, go to www.freecycle.org, and find your community by entering it into the search box.

Here's how it works:

You list what you have to give away and your general location. People will respond on email that they are interested, you pick who you want to give it to and email them back with your address. They come to your house and pick it up! Honestly, I haven't seen one person that has taken my stuff - it's like a little fairy comes and takes it off the front porch - voila! my house is a little cleaner and I didn't have to trash it!

Not sure what is worthy to give away?? Oh, you would be surprised! So far, I've given away gift boxes, packing peanuts, lotion, baby powder, you name it. The most hilarious thing I saw listed and scooped up within minutes....tapioca pudding! :-)

I live in a pretty populated area, so I usually have a taker within minutes!

Check it out and Happy Spring Cleaning!

Change a lightbulb - make a difference!

As Earth Day approaches and it becomes more and more apparent that everyone really does need to do their part, Queen Baby Bean would like to pass on a few suggestions.

One quick and easy way to make a difference is to switch over to compact fluorescent light bulbs.

By replacing standard incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL), you'll save money and help the environment.

If you replace incandescent light bulbs with CFL light bulbs....
....then you'll consume less electricity
.....then less coal-based power will have to be generated to meet your demand
....then less coal will be burned
....then less greenhouse gas will be released into the atmosphere

Nothing to do this weekend? Change a few lightbulbs - how simple is that?

Check out onebillionbulbs for additional facts and to see how you can make a difference!

Please sign the Breast Cancer Petition

Time flies when your busy...I mean having fun! It's been crazy at Queen Baby Bean the past few weeks. A ton of new stuff has been added to the store (more is coming), trying to get those taxes done, special projects, did I mention taxes? Ok, so I think I'm actually finished with the taxes - and it's not even midnight on 4/15! We are making progress!

So the real reason why I've taken time out of my crazy day...a friend of mine sent me this link and I wanted to share it with any readers I may have. Unfortunately, most of us don't know what others have to go through until we or someone we love is forced to deal.

It's terrible enough to be diagnosed with breast cancer and the last thing you should have to worry about is how quickly you'll be kicked out of the hospital. I happen to think the ONLY thing you should have to worry about is getting healthy...that's it!

Lifetime TV has created a petition urging Congress to end the practice of "drive-through" mastectomies, when women are forced to leave the hospital following their physically and emotionally difficult breast cancer surgeries before they and their doctors may feel they are ready to go home.

Please go here, read, and sign the petition if you agree!
